The farewell fits into eight seconds: the inside of the camper, the journey continuing, and a message to Hamburg saying it has earned a place in my heart.

In the caption, I say hello to Düsseldorf. Then I name the Ruhrpott as the place of my childhood and the place where my soul awakened.

Those are two kinds of direction. One tells you where we are heading. The other tells you what the journey brings up inside me.

Hamburg came with faces

The goodbye follows the evening with our people in Hamburg. I had arrived wanting to meet people. By the end, I was thanking them for their time, their stories and the feeling they had given the city.

That is why the farewell is warm. I am carrying the encounter with me.

A destination and a place of memory. Hamburg: The goodbye: a city made personal by the people I met.. Düsseldorf: The next destination named in the caption.. Ruhrpott: The childhood region named in the same caption. A region, not another name for Düsseldorf.
Conceptual sequence from the post, not a map, measured route or confirmation of arrival.

Düsseldorf and the Ruhrpott are different places

The caption moves quickly between a destination and a memory. The geography needs one clarification: Düsseldorf city is outside the Regionalverband Ruhr area. Düsseldorf is the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia; the Ruhr area is a neighbouring region within the same state.¹

The RVR lists 11 independent cities and four districts, including cities such as Duisburg, Essen and Dortmund. Düsseldorf city is not on that list. That distinction matters because the name Düsseldorf is also used for a larger administrative district.²

The RVR area: 15 members. Independent cities: 11 cities; Districts: 4 districts
Regionalverband Ruhr: 11 + 4 = 15 member authorities. These are administrative counts, not population shares.

The calculation is 11 + 4 = 15 member authorities. It is not 15 towns, and the bars say nothing about population size or how far we travelled.

For this article, the RVR boundary gives “Ruhr area” a clear administrative reference. “Ruhrpott” in my caption carries the more personal meaning of a region connected to childhood.

Returning means bringing your present self

When I write that my soul awakened there, I am describing what the place means to me. That sentence is personal. It is not a historical claim about the region or a story about a particular event that this short clip does not explain.

There is room to feel gratitude for a place you have just visited and a pull toward somewhere much older in your life. One does not cancel the other.

The video gives a goodbye and a next destination. It does not establish an arrival time, a driving distance or a booked meetup. Those details need their own confirmation.

For now, Hamburg has joined the places I carry inside me.

Sources and calculation notes

  • 1. Düsseldorf: Official city profile, confirming its role as NRW’s state capital.

  • 2. Ruhr area: Regionalverband Ruhr: regional planning. Eleven independent cities plus four districts; Düsseldorf city is absent from the member list. Administrative region and city are different units.

  • The first visual explains the caption; it is not a route map. The second counts RVR member authorities. Inputs and calculation.

  • The article draws on the visible farewell message and the creator’s caption. No dialogue or song lyrics are attributed to the clip.
